Today KDE released the second release candidate for its renewed Workspaces, Applications, and Development Platform. Meanwhile, the KDE release team has decided to schedule a 3rd release candidate to allow for more testing, pushing the 4.10 releases into the first week of February 2013. Further testing and bug fixing will allow KDE to deliver rock-stable products to millions of users world wide.

For several years, Nokia sponsored and organized Qt Developer Days—the premier annual Qt event. This year, the primary sponsors were Digia, KDAB and ICS. KDE e.V. was also a partner, and KDE associates played a significant part in the conferences—one held in Berlin, and one a few weeks later in Silicon Valley. Qt DevDays in Silicon Valley was organized and produced on short notice by ICS. These organizations each had a major presence there. The following report is about KDE's participation in Qt Developer Days Silicon Valley 2012.

Today KDE released updates for its Workspaces, Applications, and Development Platform. These updates are the last in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.9 series. 4.9.5 updates bring many bugfixes and translation updates on top of the latest edition in the 4.9 series and are recommended updates for everyone running 4.9.4 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone.

Since its beginning in 1996, KDE has developed as an organization creating a wide range of software. From the start, KDE relied on Qt, the toolkit that helps to power KDE’s software. Thanks to the feedback from the betas, KDE has already improved the quality noticeably. Further polishing new and old functionality will lead to a rock-stable, fast and beautiful release in January, 2013. One particular change in this RC is an updated look to Plasma Workspaces.
