This universal set of icons has been specially created
for the new Kubuntu (Ubuntu) interface and can operate in work
environments KDE, Unity, Gnome, Cinnamon and Xfce.
You can install it in Kubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04/13.10

This is a cursor theme multi-sized and multi-colored with colored background. It's a derivation of my cursor theme called Alkano, but this one has a transparent circular colored background, and this makes it easier to see. This type of topics liked the users of this site. I have two more of this type and are called: Fish multisized, and bFish.

The concept for the cursor theme in various colors, is accomplished by defining the colors that we use in our cursor theme and set the initial size of the cursor, increasing one pixel between each of the colors.This is my original idea. In the future I will use it to make the issue of multi-colored cursor of the famous cursor theme called Oxygen, of course, I will make it some changes.

In this case, I defined 7 different colors and cursor initial size is 42 pixels. Therefore we have cursors of green 42, yellow 43, fuchsia 44, white 45, red 46, dark blue 47 and clear blue 48 pixels. There is a 6-pixel difference between the initial size and the final size of the cursor . Simply imperceptible difference, and will be less if we choose 5 colors, or a larger initial size of the cursor.
Given the above, we have a cursor theme with 7 colors, called cbAlkano. cb means colored background and Alkano means we'll use my cursor theme called Alkano as cursor theme.

I have tested it on Kde with Kwin also Gnome 2.x and it works great. I added it symlinks for some cursors required for Steam, and all required for KDE and Gnome.

On Gnome 3.x or Unity I think doesn't works as I would want, because when the cursor size is changed, there are inconsistency only on the main cursor. The changed size will appear in few applications like firefox, but the default size (42 pixels, green cursor) will stay in desktop and some other apps. I believe this may be a part of a bug of Compiz.Therefore, if you want to see it work well, you should choose the size of the cursor 42 pixels.

I would like change a few things so you can expect updates. If you find any bugs, please let me know in comments section.

HOW TO INSTALL IT

0- Download cursor pack

1- Extract it as root to /usr/share/icons/, open a terminal and use next command:

tar -C Downloads -zxf Downloads/159078-cbAlkano.tar.gz && sudo mv Downloads/cbAlkano /usr/share/icons/

ON KDE

2- Change cursor theme and set color choosing the size cursor with desktop setting tools.

3- If you want to make it the default cursor and see this cursor theme on login screen KDM, you must edit and save as root the index.theme system file located in /usr/share/icons/default. Use next command:

nano /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

and then change the name present after de \"=\", sign to cbAlkano

4- Reboot.

ON GNOME 3.x or UNITY

2- To update the cursor theme: Search for and install Alternatives Configurator in Ubuntu Software Center.

3- You must add the cursor theme cbAlkano, to the corresponding group of alternatives. Use next command:

sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme x-cursor-theme /usr/share/icons/cbAlkano/cursor.theme 30

4- Choose the cursor theme cbAlkano. Use next command:

sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

5- To set color, choose the cursor size: Search for and install Dconf Editor in Ubuntu Software Center.

6- Use next Command, changing the default cursor size 42 pixels to your custom cursor size. Could also use 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47 or 48 pixels. I recommend 42 pixels, to avoid the bug mentioned above.

7- Finally, create or edit the ~/.Xresources file using next command:

gedit ~/.Xresources

Add the following two lines. Change 42 to match size defined in step 6 and save it:

Xcursor.theme: cbAlkano
Xcursor.size: 42

8- Reboot.
