Z4rg Cursor 2 (X11 Mouse Theme)

Sun, 2014/04/13 - 11:40pm
ThumbnailZ4rg Cursor 2
(X11 Mouse Theme)
A minimal cursor theme I made with the goal of making the cursor's position as obvious as possible while preventing it from obstructing the view. The pixellated art style was used to create maximum contrast between the colors, and the variety of colors is to help it stay visible against a variety of backgrounds. Its file size is also very small (less than 20KB).

changelog:
version 2 fixes the glitch that made the theme difficult to install, replaces various cursors with links to other cursors, and generally improves the design of the graphics.

kconfig 0.1 (KDE Improvement)

Sun, 2014/04/13 - 12:58pm
Thumbnailkconfig 0.1
(KDE Improvement)
A CLI config tool.

It supports reading and writing of config entries.

Features beyond kread/writeconfig:
----------------------------------
- regular expression matching
- key/group deletion
- regexp based (mass) replacement
- regexp based entry listing

Usecases:
---------
a) kconfupdates:
Whenever you\'ve got legacy settings and you need to update them you end up either writing a cpp blackbox (to the user) or a complex (\'bash\' != \'sh\' ...) and slow script for it (latter sometimes not even being possible - original reason to write this ;-)

b) user assistance:
it is much simpler to ask a user to \"kreadconfig --file kwinrc --group Compositing --key MaxFPS\" than to explain the clickchain through the config GUI.
If you need more than one key, regexp driven maybe grouplisting can be very convenient.

c) key deletion:
right now the tool of choice for that is called \"kwrite\" ...

Syntax:
-------
kconfig [/[/[...]]] read|write|delete|list|replace [] []

see \"kconfig help\" for an up-to date list and command aliases

Examples: (to get you an idea)
---------

Let\'s say you want to show the configured MaxFPS of the compositor
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing read MaxFPS
MaxFPS: 60 (kwinrc/Compositing)

Unset it:
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing delete MaxFPS
Removed MaxFPS: 60

Add it:
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing write MaxFPS 60
New MaxFPS: 60

You got a 120Hz screen and want the compositor tick more?
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing write MaxFPS 120
MaxFPS: 60 -> 120

You forgot the actual key?
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing list max
MaxFPS: 120

Isn\'t there too much output for script invocation? (No)
$ MAX_FPS=`kconfig kwinrc/Compositing read MaxFPS`; echo $MAX_FPS
120

You want to alter a present MaxFPS key to MaxFps?
$ kconfig kwinrc/Compositing replace \'MaxFPS=(.*)\' \'MaxFps=\\1\'
MaxFPS: 120 -> MaxFps: 120

List all electric borders - w/o knowing in what group they are:
$ kconfig \'kwinrc/.*\' list electric

Ring All In One 1.02.01 (X11 Mouse Theme)

Sat, 2014/04/12 - 6:05pm
ThumbnailRing All In One 1.02.01
(X11 Mouse Theme)
+Ring All In One is one of my Ring serie. Its a X11 mouse theme multisized to 32, 40, 48, 56 and 64 pixels, fully built with Inkscape. Ring\'s full serie: Black, Accent Blue Base, Accent Green Base, Orange Base, Accent Red Base and White.

To all the fans of this subject, tell them that I have re-split all the serie, because:
  • 1. The KDE community has asked me for because, KDE has the ability to browse and download different artwork from the OpenDesktop.org website, for add new artwork to our computers, using the Get Hot New Stuff standard, which KDE supports in its System Settings preference area; In the future, all distros will have a similiar settings tool.
    2. With multi sized versions there are no problems, but i have seen that in my Dropbox links to artworks, they not work when I select them in New Stuff Area.
    3. On the packs as they are various split theme sizes in a compressed file, here are problems to install them with the kde new stuff area.
    4. When I install a mouse theme, and I want to install another which is on the same page, I have to uninstall the previous one and then install the new theme.
    5. I love how KDE makes new artwork available right from the desktop. I browse through those other websites anyway, but for installing new artwork quickly and efficiently, without worrying about expanding an archive and finding where it goes on the system, this is better by far. It\'s fast, easy to browse, and puts everything right at your fingertips. Other operating systems should be so lucky.

  • I tested it under Pantheon, Cinnamon 2.0 with Muffin, KDE 4.10.5 with Kwin, Xfce 4.10, also Gnome 2/3.x and it works great. I added it symlinks for some cursors required for Steam, and all required for Pantheon, Cinnamon, KDE, Xfce, Gnome, and Unity.

    I decided to upload it, and after will go improving it. I would like change a few things so you can expect updates. If you find any bugs, please let me know in comments section.

    If you don\'t know how to install a mouse theme with multi sized property, like this one, go to http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=164435, there you can see all instructions for KDE, Cinnamon, and Xfce. You can use the Cinnamon instructions for Pantheon.

    Thanks, and greetings,
